Welcome!

M2P is the Media, Movements and Politics research group of the University of Antwerp, situated within the Political Science department. The non-institutional side of the political processes is the focus of M2P. M2P's research interests lie more specifically with three non-institutional political actors: social movements (civil society), mass media, and the public (public opinion and participation).

How do these actors interact with institutional politics? How do they maintain their autonomous, non-institutional role? Are they important political actors or only negligible players? The more general question is to what extent these non-institutional political actors affect political decision-making. Or in other words: what is the power of social movements, mass media, and the public?
