London, UK, 2-4 April 2012: Conference on The Royal Body (Royal Holloway, University of London): The idea of the king’s two bodies, the body natural and the body politic, founded on the distinction between the personal and mortal king and the perpetual and corporate crown, has long been of interest to scholars of medieval and early modern kingship. This interdisciplinary conference will examine all aspects of the royal body, from art, dress and personal service to sex, disease and death. Drawing on examples from Britain, Europe and the wider world, it will explore the ways in which attitudes and ideas about the royal person have changed from the middle ages to the present.
