RECENT RESEARCH TOPICS

Huntington’s disease (HD) is a late manifesting neurodegenerative disease caused by the expansion of a CAG repeat in the IT15 huntingtin gene. Transgenic animal models of HD have provided new ways for studying the underlying neuropathological mechanisms of the disease. With the use of a unique transgenic rat model from von Hörsten et al. 2003 (Tübingen, Germany), Ines Blockx performs longitudinal in vivo MRI imaging studies to investigate changes in neuroconnectivity, neuroactivity and neurogenesis in search for early diagnostic and drug evaluation MRI tools.
