Job description

As Research and Innovation Manager acting for the EGAMI consortium active in the field of imaging (microscopy, in vivo animal MRI,PET and BLI), you will have the following tasks:
  • From a research management perspective, you consolidate and expand the existing ‘critical mass’ of the research consortium in terms of expertise, equipment and personnel with the aim of:
    • stimulating co-operation with industry
    • building up a knowledge and IP portfolio of potential interest to industry
    • professional management of current research projects
  • You collaborate with industry to explore opportunities for new research topics with the aim of capitalising upon the existing expertise in the research consortium.
  • Based upon the excellence of the research consortium you stimulate (interdisciplinary) collaboration with other faculties/departments/research groups of the university, as well as with the university colleges belonging to the association (AUHA), and you create national and international collaborative networks. Hereby focusing also on new initiatives concerning translational medicine.
In summary, your efforts should be focused on industrial valorisation of innovative research results and technologies obtained within the consortium aiming to contribute to the IOF-parameters of the University of Antwerp.

Profile and requirements

  • Preferably you are holder of a doctoral degree in the domain of the research consortium. If not, you have at least 5 years of relevant expertise related to its research domain:
    • microscopical imaging, in vivo small animal MRI and PET Imaging and quantitative image processing;
    • biomedical research;
    • molecular imaging;
    • translational research insights.
  • You possess strong management, administrative and communication skills;
  • Relevant work experience in both academic and industrial research is a strong asset;
  • Experience in attracting external research funding from the private and public sector in the domain of applied research on national as well as international level is desirable;
  • Knowledge of technology transfer processes needed to valorise academic research results and available lab technology as well as experience in managing a broad project portfolio is an asset;
  • Experience with EC projects and the related administration is an advantage;
  • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative.

We offer:

  • A position as a post doctoral researcher;
  • A gross monthly salary ranging from € 3.745,15 - € 5.838,37 (depending on the academic qualifications and former professional experience);

The University of Antwerp is seeking to fill the following full time vacancy (m/f) at the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the Faculty of Pharmacy-Veterinary and Biomedical sciences:
Post doctoral position for Neuroscientist
Bio-Imaging lab, University of Antwerp, Belgium

The core R&D activity of the Bio-Imaging Lab is experimental high resolution neuroMRI focusing on neurodegeneration, neuroregeneration, neuronal plasticity and brain activity related with auditory memory and auditory learning.  The research is performed on rat and mouse models for different human neuropathologies and on songbirds as a model for neuronal plasticity, auditory processing and learning. We have two 7Tesla 16 cm and one  9.4Tesla 21 cm horizontal bore in-vivo MRI scanners from Bruker (Germany) and an in-vivo  Bioluminescence - Fluorescence (BLI) camera from Biospace (France). Our group has access to micro PET and advanced image processing through other UA research teams with whom we are clustered into a larger imaging consortium EGAMI(Expert Group Antwerp Molecular Imaging).

Profile and requirements:

  • You are committed to give the best of yourself in your job. Having a ‘translational’ mind set is a bonus.
  • You hold a doctoral degree in neurosciences or you are an MD with specialization in neurosciences.
  • You have excellent knowledge on at least one of the following topics: neuro-degeneration, -regeneration, neuroplasticity, neurogenesis, (endogenous) stem cells.
  • You have experience with in vivo Neuroimaging techniques preferentially MRI and BLI
  • You have experience with working with small animals (rats and mice)
  • You have an excellent scientific CV, have good writing skills for both publishing and project writing.
  • You are clearly a good team player, you are a creative and critical scientist. You have experience in coaching PhD students who will be under your supervision.

We offer:

  • A full-time position as a post doctoral fellow in the framework of a new EC project on the interaction between neuro-degeneration and inflammation in which we contribute by unravelling this interaction in MS and AD mice models using in vivo small animal imaging (MRI and BLI). The contract is for one year and will extended up to 5 years depending upon good performance.
